Speech Title: The importance of Leadership Rounding in a Hospital
Biography: Dr. Carlo Piraino is a Chief Nursing Officer who currently serves the Nursing communities of Western Colorado as a Associate Chief Nurse / VP of Nursing at a regional Psychiatric Hospital. He’s been an RN in practice for thirty-five years. His doctoral dissertation examined the effects of trauma on patients’ lives. In addition to his 25 years of federal employment with the Department of Veteran Affairs, and the United States Navy, Dr. Piraino has extensive clinical expertise. Having served in combat in the military and witnessed underrsthand the effects that trauma can have on individuals, he is now helping colleagues heal from trauma. He has given presentations on a wide range of subjects in this area, including PTSD and the long-term psychiatric effects of traumatic brain injury that might affect military veterans. Similar patterns of presentation and potential long-term effects can be found in secondary violence. Dr. Piraino has given presentations on how to identify the returning soldier with PTSD to a wide range of groups, including pastors and clinical professionals, all around the world. Dr. Piraino has taught online nursing courses for multiple colleges as adjunct faculty in addition to giving lectures.
